If you’ve been looking for guidance on how to become more spiritually fit and more spiritually sound in life, I believe this series of writings is just for you. Maybe you’ve mastered how to be physically fit, financially fit, and mentally fit in a natural sense, but now you need guidance on becoming more spiritually fit. If that is in fact your situation, then this series is for you and I’m here to help you as best I can!
The most important way to become more spiritually fit is by improving and nourishing your relationship with or connection to God/Divine. Improving and nourishing your relationship with and connection to Divine is just like any other goal or accomplishment you wish to pursue. It’s going to take some commitment, discipline, guidance, sacrifice, and focused work. Of course, anything worth having or becoming is going to take these same things, if not more. If you’re not ready to do the work, then you’re not ready to succeed at this level of your spiritual journey – though I hope you are!
In the previous entry to this series, we defined spiritual fitness as having the ability and practices in place to have the spiritual strength, endurance, power, knowledge, and wisdom to protect your connection to God/Divine, yourself, others, and the universe from the devices or schemes of evil.
The reason it is imperative to be spiritually fit in the first place is because threats of all sorts rise up in every area of our lives that try to misdirect and sabotage us on all levels. Meaning, we encounter people, principalities, things, and events that purposely set out to inflict us with pain, injury, damage, or other ways of harm for the sole purpose of taking us out!
Because of these threats, threats that I call evil, it’s important for us to have and we need to have a special caregiver in this life. Not just any ole caregiver, but a supernatural and parental caregiver. Not just any caregiver, but a guiding caregiver. Not just any caregiver, but a loving caregiver. Not just any caregiver, but a heavenly caregiver. A caregiver we can confidently do life with that has the ability, power, and desire to love and care for us like no one else! GOD is the ONLY one I know that can be the type of caregiver we need.
One of the most meaningful aspects of life, no, THE most meaningful aspect of life is having a relationship or connection with Divine. Not only having a relationship with Divine, but also having a loving, active, reciprocal, sound, solid, and healthy relationship with Divine.
Contrary to popular belief, forming healthy and loving relationships is learned. They're not just automatic. The skills it takes to make any relational connection last and strong takes a lot of hard work. They also require a lot of traits that promote healthy and loving relationships.
Strong relationships require nurturing and nourishment. While some use these words interchangeably, they do differ. The best way I can think of to explain would be to use the example of a plant. While giving the plant water would be considered nourishing it. Providing it with good soil, some sunlight, and pest protection would be the act of nurturing.
To drive this part of the series home let’s lay it out in actionable steps that you can use to be successful at becoming more spiritually fit in a complete sense.
Firstly, you need a connection to Divine. By that, I mean you need a confessed and committed relationship with Divine. I assume you are reading this because you do have a relationship with God, but if you don’t you need to establish one. No relationship is valid or recognized without first being initiated and validated. It needs to be begun and declared as true. Otherwise, how will anyone, including God, know it’s real and true.
Secondly, you need to achieve a high level of intimacy with God. Though we like to use the term intimacy in a sexual sense, here it involves establishing a reciprocal deep bond. A bond as in a uniting connection where the connection can’t be broken. A connection where because you spend so much time together you begin to take on the character of God and are not easily turned away from God.
One way to achieve this tight knit bond is to seek God fervently. Spend time with God. Spend time getting to know and talking to God. Spend time listening to God. Another way is to spend time reading and studying God’s Sacred Texts. Make yourself available to get to know all you can about Divine as you would with someone you are highly interested in knowing and growing with.
Though the steps sound simple they're still going to require a great deal out of you. Again, if you're not ready to do the work, you will fall short and getting to the next level in your spiritual journey.
If you want a relationship with God and currently don’t have one or if you feel like your relationship with God is not what it used to be or should be, and you need a little guidance with the actionable steps given in this piece – I’d love to help and walk with you through that process.
