Celebrating Others Is Honorable

Celebrating Others Is Honorable

In my unpopular opinion, we don't celebrate others (the good solid folks) when they're alive as much as we do when they've transitioned. I've always felt this way, however, with the passing of the multi-talented brother Malcolm-Jamal Warner, it reminded me of the thought even more.

We are surrounded by people in life who are solid, multitalented, and upstanding people, but our culture and society have taught us that people shouldn't be celebrated for these character traits as if they're not worthy of celebratory attention. Yet, I beg to differ. It's not every day you meet such people. Quite frankly, it's not as common as you may think, or maybe it is, and we just ignore it.

Take time to brag on the solid people in your life. Sing the praises of the upstanding, good-hearted folks you consistently encounter. Don't wait until they are long gone before you acknowledge their value and speak of what a great person they were. This world oddly celebrates the frauds, snakes, racists, and evil way too loudly. Let's start to celebrate the good, even louder, prouder, and more often - especially while they're here with us.
